Taoiseach Washes Hands of Greystones Media Campus as €24 Million Public Investment Hangs in the Balance

Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow, John Brady, has expressed deep disappointment following the Taoiseach’s refusal to accept any responsibility for safeguarding the future of the Greystones Media Campus project – despite €24 million of taxpayer’s money having already been invested through the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF).

Speaking after raising the matter directly with the Taoiseach in the Dáil, Deputy Brady said:

“I asked the Taoiseach to clarify the status of the Greystones Media Campus and to explain what the government intends to do to prevent this vital project from being lost altogether. His response was deeply concerning. He effectively washed his hands of any government involvement, despite clear public interest and investment in this project”.

The Greystones Media Campus has the potential to become one of the largest film studios in Ireland and a cornerstone of the county’s thriving film and television industry. Wicklow has long been the beating heart of Ireland’s film and television projection, with major international and domestic productions choosing to base themselves in the county. The campus would further strengthen this position, delivering up to 1,500 jobs and a transformative economic boost to the region.

However, the future of the development is now uncertain, despite ISIF having already committed €24 million of public funds to the project. “It is astonishing that the Taoiseach is willing to turn a blind eye to this”, Deputy Brady said. “This is not just a local concern – it is a matter of national economic and cultural importance. Public money has been invested, and the jobs and opportunities this project would create are hanging by a thread. The government cannot walk away now”.

Deputy Brady has confirmed that he has written to the IDA, as well as to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, to demand answers and urgent intervention. He is now calling on the Tánaiste and fellow Wicklow TD, Simon Harris, to intervene directly to ensure the project is revived and brought to completion.

“The people of Wicklow, and the Irish film industry, deserve better than this hands-off approach. The government must act to protect the public investment that has already been made, and to secure the enormous social and economic benefits that the Greystones Media Campus can deliver. I am calling on the government to step up and ensure this vital investment and the 1,500 jobs it promises are not lost”.
