Suspected raw sewage leak in Fassaroe needs to be addressed immediately – Denise Cahill Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin local election candidate for Bray East Denise Cahill has called on Irish Water to act immediately to address the suspected sewage leak in Fassaroe, where a local footpath has been left impassable for residents with the constant flow what is believed to be raw sewage leaking onto the pathway at the main junction in Fassaroe.

Cahill said:

“It is absolutely unacceptable that residents in Fassaroe are left with an impassable pathway due to the leakage of what appears to be sewerage onto a pathway used by the public including many children in the area.

This is the busiest road in the Fassaroe estate, and elderly people and young children are forced to walk out onto the road to avoid it on a daily basis.

A communications substation is covered in the suspected sewerage, and workers seeking to access the substation are forced to walk through and have to kneel in the middle of this mess to work there.

This could potentially represent an environmental hazard.

I and my colleagues in Sinn Féin have reported this issue to Wicklow Co. Co., who referred it to the Bray Municipal District, who contacted Irish Water.

Despite numerous email and phone calls to Irish Water there has been no follow up on this matter.

This is unacceptable, Irish Water are responsible for leaving the people of Fassaroe exposed to a potential environmental health hazard caused by this leaking sewerage.

I am once again calling on Irish Water to act immediately to address this situation.”
