Road safety plan needed immediately for Heatherside Housing Estate, Vale Road, Arklow – Warren O’Toole Sinn Féin

Wicklow Sinn Féin local election candidate for the Arklow local electoral area Warren O’Toole has called on Wicklow County Council to introduce a road safety plan at the Heatherside Housing Estate at Vale Road, Arklow.

Residents in the area have raised concerns at the speed of cars travelling through the estate. Particularly as there are no road safety measures currently in place.

The area needs to see the introduction of speed ramps, and the current position of the pedestrian crossing needs to be reviewed.

Warren O’Toole said:

“Wicklow County Council need to introduce a road safety plan at Heatherside as soon as possible. Local residents are very concerned at the speed of cars travelling through the estate.

There are no speed ramps, and the signage which has been put in place is not sufficient. The current position of the Pedestrian crossing which is situated 100 meters away from the town direction needs to be reviewed.

This is an estate with a lot of young families, where young children play outside. If action is not taken it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.

There has already been an incident where a car travelling at speed has careered into the wall of a house in the estate.

I am calling on Wicklow County Council to act to introduce a road safety plan as soon as possible, to put in speed ramps, re-examine the effectiveness of existing signage, and review the positioning of the current pedestrian crossing, which arguably does not serve the interests of the residents of the estates.”
