West Wicklow Sinn Féin local election candidate Aidan Kinsella has called on Wicklow County Council to act immediately to ensure that urgently needed repair work on the public pathways and roads in the village of Coolboy are carried out. The current situation in the village represents a risk to both motorists and pedestrians.
Kinsella said:
“I am very concerned about the condition of a number of roads and pathways in the village of Coolboy. The current situation poses a risk to both pedestrians and motorists.
The state of a number of pathways in the village present a hazard to pedestrians, particularly children and older people.
There is also a danger of cars suffering unnecessary damage due to the scale of the problem with potholes, and the general state of the road surface in places. The people of Coolboy pay their road tax the same as everyone else in the country, and they have a right to be able to drive on roads which are fit for purpose.
It is an unacceptable situation for residents in the village.
Working along with my party colleague John Brady TD, we have been in contact with Wicklow County Council to push for urgently needed repair work on all footpaths in the village to be carried out as quickly as possible.
The areas of the village in question are the footpaths and roads around the square area, and others leading to the housing estate’s, local shop, pub and the well-established handball alley.
Local residents are extremely unhappy that the situation around the footpaths and roads in the village, has been let go this long. This issue have been ongoing over the past 15 years.
I have been contacted by a large number of local people in the area, who are very concerned that the current state of the roads and pathways present a significant safety issue for locals.
I am calling on Wicklow County Council to take action as soon as possible to address these issues, as a failure to do so represents an unacceptable risk to the health and safety of the people in Coolboy.”
