Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady is hosting an online briefing meeting for members of the public next Thursday evening the 17th of October along with his party colleague and Sinn Féin spokesperson on Housing Eoin O’Broin, entitled ‘A Home of Your Own – Tackling the Housing Crisis’.
The meeting is open to all members of the public who want to get to the crux of the crisis and hear how Sinn Féin plans to resolve the crisis.
Brady said:
“The housing crisis is the single biggest political issue facing the people across the state.
In our county here in Wicklow we have some of the highest rents and house prices in the country outside Dublin. A whole generation has been priced out of the housing market.
And the fact is that while they have talked at length about what they will do, the crisis has just got worse and worse over the lifetime of this government.
They just lack the abilities and imagination needed to tackle the problem.
Sinn Féin has a plan to make housing affordable and to bring homeownership back within reach of working people both here in Wicklow and across the state.
Our housing plan will deliver 300,000 new homes – private, public, affordable and to rent homes as well as enabling people to build homes in their own communities.
This is a comprehensively costed plan, the scale and ambition of which has never been set out by any other party.
We are ready to start delivering this plan from day one in Government.
In terms of delivery targets- SF proposes 13,500 social homes and 8,000 affordable homes for 2025 as part of our five-year plan to deliver 300,000 homes. Whereas the Gov have provided for their pre-existing Housing All target of 10,000 social homes and 4,400 affordable for next year.
We believe that you should have a home of your own. A home in which you feel safe and secure. A home that meets your needs. A home that you can afford. A Home Of Your Own sets the course to ending the housing crisis so that you can have a home of your own.
Sinn Féin has a plan to make housing affordable and to bring homeownership within reach of working people. Sinn Féin will transform housing in Ireland, from how we think and plan homes, the communities they are part of, to how we build homes. We will ensure that everyone has a home, their own front door.
Join us on Thursday night along with myself and Eoin O’Broin to hear how we can address this crisis and build a future for our young people.
Anyone interested in going can contact me by leaving a message on the contact page of my website – https://www.johnbradytd.ie/contact/ – which will allow me to pass on the zoom details.” ENDs
