Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady has strongly criticised Uisce Éireann for their failure to deal with ongoing water supply problems in the Glendarragh Willow Way estate in Newtownmountkennedy, where residents have been left with little or no water pressure during the day for almost a year.
Speaking on the issue, Deputy Brady said:
“It is absolutely disgraceful that residents in Glendarragh Willow Way have been left with ongoing water supply interruptions since November 2024. On a daily basis households are left with little water pressure, and in many cases no water supply at all. Despite residents constantly reporting these issues to Uisce Éireann, all they are merely given are ticket numbers and no explanation or resolution.”
Residents have raised concerns that the problems are linked to contractors’ trucks filling with water from fire hydrants during building works in the area.
“This needs to be clarified immediately,” Deputy Brady continued. “Uisce Éireann must confirm whether contractors have been authorised to take water from the hydrants and explain what steps they are going to take to stop these interruptions and restore a reliable supply to residents.”
John Brady also highlighted Uisce Éireann’s own commitments:
“In their domestic customer charter Uisce Éireann commit to responding to customer complaints within 5 days and guaranteeing an update if the issue remains after 10 days. Yet here we are 10 months later, and nothing has been done. When I raised this matter directly with Uisce Éireann, I was simply told that the issue is under investigation. That is not good enough.”
Deputy Brady concluded, saying:
“This has gone on far too long and is deeply unfair on residents whose lives are being impacted daily. Uisce Éireann needs to act now and put a solution in place without any further delay. I have written to the Minister for Housing, Heritage and Local Government asking for urgent intervention with Uisce Éireann to ensure that the families living here have these issues addressed urgently”.
