Brady calls for immediate traffic safety measures to be introduced on N81 at Hollywood Cross

Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady has expressed serious concern over safety issues at the Hollywood cross junction on the N81. He described the issue as extremely urgent, stating that safety measures need to be initiated by the Council immediately and the National Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Brady said:

“Safety concerns on the N81 at Hollywood Cross need to be addressed by the Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland immediately. There have been several crashes and dangerous incidents at this location over the last number of weeks.

A major upgrade of the N81 between Tallaght and Hollywood Cross was planned. With work progressing to the stage that a preferred route was identified at a cost of several million euro. But in 2018 the upgrade was inexplicably left out of the National Development Plan 2018-2027 by the Government, despite the fact the N81 is one of the most dangerous in the state.

This decision by the Government dashed hopes of funding for the upgrade which would have witnessed construction of a road that addressed all the safety issues.

The last number of weeks have witnessed several accidents on the N81 at Hollywood Cross. And without the introduction of safety measures there is a real fear of road fatalities.

I will continue to push for the advancement of the overall N81 upgrade between Hollywood Cross and Tallaght to address the major safety issues and congestion issues. In the interim we immediately need road safety measures implemented at Hollywood Cross.

In other parts of the state measures have been introduced on national secondary roads like the N81 to slow traffic as they approach dangerous junctions. There is no reason why this cannot be completed here.

I am calling upon Wicklow County Council and TII to act immediately to address the safety concerns on the N81.” ENDs
