Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady has called on the NTA to erect a bus shelter at the entrance to Kilgarron Park in Enniskerry. The area where there are bus stops on both sides of the road is very exposed to the elements, particularly since vegetation has been cut back around the area where the bus stop is situated. With a lot of elderly people in the area utilising public transport there is a real need to provide shelter for bus commuters travelling to and from the Kilgarron area.
Brady said:
“Being in regular contact with residents in the area around the constant battle with GoAhead to improve the service on the 185-bus route, the fact that there was no shelter being provided at the nearby bus stop for waiting passengers was brought to my attention.
Visiting the site of the bus stop, situated at the top of Kilgarron Hill, and just at the entrance to Kilgarron Park, it is very evident, particularly since vegetation which had previously provided rudimentary shelter from the elements has been cut back, that there is a need for a shelter to be erected to protect bus commuters, particularly the elderly from the elements.
I have contacted the National Transport Authority (NTA), stressing both the need and the urgency around the erection of a bus shelter here, and I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that there is movement on the issue in the near future.
As we continue to battle to improve the standard of the bus route to the area, particularly in light of the abysmal performance of GoAhead since the NTA awarded them the contract for the route, it is important that additional infrastructure such as bus shelter is also put in place for the comfort and welfare of waiting passengers.
