I am John Brady, the Sinn Féin TD representing Wicklow. Born and raised in Bray, I am married to Gayle, and we have five wonderful children. My journey in public service began with my election to Bray Town Council in 2004, followed by my election to Wicklow County Council in 2009. I was elected to the Dáil in 2016 and again in 2020, where I continue to be a strong and vocal advocate for the people of Wicklow.
As a determined opposition voice for Wicklow, I tirelessly work to address the long-standing neglect of our county. I passionately campaign for improved public transport, key infrastructural projects such as the upgrade of the rail line between Bray and Arklow, and essential N81 improvement works. I am also a strong advocate for public and sporting amenities, including the West Wicklow Swimming Pool and a Sports Campus for North Wicklow.
I am a staunch supporter of expanding the Newborn Screening Programme (heel prick test) to include tests for rare diseases. My advocacy extends to reforming the Retained Fire Service both in Wicklow and across the state, having introduced a motion in the Dáil in support of Retained Fire Fighters in 2022.
Addressing the educational needs of Wicklow’s growing young population is a priority for me. I campaign for increased school places and call for more school buildings to meet these needs. During my time in Leinster House, I have served on several Oireachtas Committees, including the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, where I was instrumental in publishing a report on Demolitions and Displacements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
As a member of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee, I played a central role in the investigation into the scandal at RTE. My efforts gained international recognition in 2021 when I successfully introduced a motion to the Dáil acknowledging the de facto annexation occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories.
I remain committed to serving the people of Wicklow, advocating for their needs, and ensuring their voices are heard at the national level.
