Government Must Explain Cancellation of Garda CCTV Tender for Bray – Brady

Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow, John Brady, has said the cancellation of the tender process for new Garda CCTV services is deeply alarming and represents yet another delay in delivering long overdue safety infrastructure for the people of Bray.

The tender related to An Garda Síochána’s plan to establish a Single-Supplier Framework for the provision of CCTV services, with Bray selected as one of three pilot locations alongside Tralee and Tullamore.

Teachta Brady said:

“It is deeply concerning that An Garda Síochána’s tendering process to establish a Single-Supplier Framework for the provision of CCTV services has been cancelled without explanation.

“This €4.5 million tender was published on the 4th of December 2025 with a closing date for submissions of the 11th of December 2025. It now appears to have been quietly cancelled on the 20th of February 2026.

“The complete lack of transparency around this decision raises serious questions about the government’s commitment to improving community safety in towns like Bray.

“Bray had been selected as one of just three locations nationwide to participate in this pilot scheme, alongside Tralee and Tullamore. There was a clear expectation locally that this would finally deliver a modern and effective CCTV system for the town. Instead, we now appear to be facing yet another delay.”

Deputy Brady continued:

“For more than two years I have been raising the urgent need to replace Bray’s outdated Garda CCTV system, which was installed back in 2003.

“The town’s 13 cameras have not been fit for purpose for many years, and both the community and local Gardaí have been waiting far too long for this system to be upgraded.

“At the same time, Garda numbers in Wicklow continue to fall because of the government’s ongoing failure to properly allocate additional Garda resources to the county.

“Because of that reality, technology such as CCTV has become an increasingly important tool in modern policing. However, it is absolutely vital to state that CCTV is not there to replace Gardaí on the beat, it is there to complement and support the work they do every day in our communities.

“I will continue to push for an increase in Garda numbers across Wicklow and in Bray in particular. But ensuring that Gardaí also have access to modern, fit-for-purpose CCTV infrastructure will significantly assist them in carrying out their work and keeping communities safe.

“I will now be writing to the Minister for Justice demanding an urgent explanation as to why this tender has been cancelled and what immediate steps will now be taken to ensure Bray finally receives the modern CCTV system it urgently needs.

“Communities like Bray cannot continue to be left waiting when it comes to basic public safety infrastructure.” Ends
